About the role
LightMed is recruiting experienced HCPC-registered Paramedics to join our bank of event and production medical staff.
This is a varied role providing autonomous pre-hospital care at events, film and television productions, sporting fixtures, community events, corporate functions, venues and other temporary workplaces across the North West and wider UK.
Assignments are offered as they become available, with no obligation to accept every deployment and no guarantee of regular hours.
Paramedics may work independently, act as the senior clinician or Clinical Lead for an event, or work alongside Emergency Medical Technicians, First Responders, nurses and doctors at larger or higher-risk deployments.
The role
Depending on the deployment, responsibilities may include:
Undertaking comprehensive autonomous patient assessment and clinical examination.
Recording and interpreting observations, cardiac monitoring and 12-lead ECGs.
Developing differential diagnoses and appropriate treatment and disposition plans.
Recognising and managing critically unwell or deteriorating patients.
Providing airway management, ventilation, suction and resuscitation care within competence.
Undertaking manual defibrillation and advanced cardiac arrest management.
Obtaining vascular access and administering appropriate medicines and fluids.
Managing acute medical presentations, significant trauma and major haemorrhage.
Providing appropriate analgesia and symptom management.
Administering relevant medicines.
Making appropriate discharge, referral, escalation and conveyance decisions.
Liaising with NHS ambulance services, emergency departments and other healthcare professionals.
Providing structured clinical handovers.
Assessing consent, capacity and safeguarding concerns.
Leading and supporting EMTs, First Responders and First Aiders.
Acting as Event Clinical Lead or senior clinician where appointed.
Managing treatment areas, clinical risk, patient flow and available resources.
Liaising with event control, production teams, security and other emergency services.
Completing accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
Maintaining medicines, Controlled Drugs, equipment and infection prevention standards.
Essential requirements
Applicants must have:
Current HCPC registration as a Paramedic.
Evidence of recent autonomous pre-hospital clinical practice.
Current Advanced Life Support training.
Evidence of continuing professional development and clinical competence.
The right to work in the UK.
An Enhanced DBS certificate with the relevant barred-list checks, registered with the DBS Update Service.
Appropriate professional indemnity arrangements.
Medicines and equipment requirements
Due to the autonomous nature of many LightMed Paramedic deployments, applicants must have access to their own appropriate medicines provision.
As a minimum, Paramedics must have:
Their own lawfully obtained and appropriately stored Controlled Drugs.
Their own suitable pharmacy stock appropriate to autonomous paramedic practice.
Appropriate medicines storage, documentation and administration equipment.
Preference will be given to applicants with a complete self-contained paramedic kit, particularly those with their own:
Multiparameter monitor/defibrillator capable of manual defibrillation and 12-lead ECG.
Airway and ventilation equipment.
Oxygen and suction.
Vascular access equipment.
Trauma and diagnostic equipment.
Comprehensive response bag and consumables.
All personally supplied medicines and equipment remain subject to LightMed approval and must be lawful, appropriately maintained, within date and used only within the clinician's competence and scope of practice.
Desirable requirements
The following would be beneficial:
Previous event medical or NHS ambulance experience.
Film and television or production medical experience.
Experience acting as a Clinical Lead or senior event clinician.
Experience leading multidisciplinary medical teams.
Additional trauma, major incident or paediatric emergency training.
Emergency response driving qualification.
